ABOUT
Callowhill is a tiny, transit-friendly Center City-adjacent neighborhood in Philadelphia, stretching from Vine Street to Spring Garden, and Broad to 8th Street. Over the last twenty years, it's grown to accommodate a number of venues, restaurants, and other businesses and an increasing amount of residential housing. You may know it as the Eraserhood, Loft District, or Chinatown North. This website uses the name given in 2000 by the Callowhill Neighborhood Association.
Callowhill.net is a love letter to the neighborhood - and a planning tool for visiting or living here. The original idea for the site was to create a new way to visualize the neighborhood's walkability to a vibrant music scene. It is updated weekly by a volunteer who has lived here for more than a decade. The weekly event listings are provided in partnership with PhillyShows.org.
For definitional purposes, the site is meant to be a venue-first experience: Find a music act that you're interested in, and pick a restaurant or bar for before or after the show.
There are three simple rules for the listings:
1. Venues have to be within a 1-mile walking distance of a center point of the neighborhood.
2. Restaurants and amenities have to be within a half-mile of walking distance of the same center point, within proximity of the related venues.
3. With more than 100 dining options, Chinatown is so vast that it would dwarf the neighborhood's proximate options, so they are excluded beyond the half-mile center point.
